I Live for the Applause

I live for the applause, applause, applause, I live for the applause, ‘plause, live for the applause, ‘plause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me…”

Lady Gaga, Applause

Lady Gaga isn’t the only one who lives for the applause. We all do in some way, shape, or form whether it’s an atta-girl from the boss or an adoring pat on the tushy from your honey. We’re human and it feels great to have a reaction of appreciation from others. It affirms our presence and that we are desired (one of my Desire Map Core Desired Feelings, by the way).

But adoration is a double-edged sword. Ask yourself how often you wait for the clap of hands from others while forgoing introspection on how YOU feel about your performance. Yes, Gaga may “live for the applause” but I’m here to tell you that Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (her “real” name), likely couldn’t give two craps about what you think about her meat dress or what I can only call questionable shoe choices. And that, my pet, is because she is so deeply connected to what she wants, how she wants to feel, and how she desires to express her creativity. And while I wouldn’t consider myself to be a Gaga mega-fan, I connect with her because whether she’s gussied up with an updo for a duet with Tony Bennett or wearing an outfit that looks like food, she is so frickin’ true to herself that the applause is just gravy, baby.

It’s OK to live for the applause. Just make sure that the first one to put their hands together is front and center (that would be you, precious!). Love and appreciate your performance regardless. If you try, it’s a victory. Hit an off note. Try again. And every. Single. Time. Clap for your yourself!

Rock. Your. Life. It’s glorious, you know?!
